MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY reveals to star news that his new wife, CAMILA ALVES, initially declined to his proposal last December.
Good thing she changed her mind!
Matthew McConaughey didn’t expect his girlfriend of five years—who is also the mother of his two children–to think twice when he proposed to her late last year… but she did!
The “Magic Mike” stripper star, who finally married Camila last June 9 in Texas, revealed on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” earlier this week:
“At Christmastime, we go around our family and everyone takes turns opening presents. So I had wrapped the engagement ring in about eight different boxes deep, so she would keep opening boxes to get with it.”
He continued:
“We finally got to her, and I’m calling my family over. She gets to it, she opens it up, her eyes go wide. I take a knee and I ask her, ‘Will you marry me and take my name?’”
While that was actually an interesting twist to the usual proposal line (and admit it, it’s kind of hard to say no to the hunky actor!), Matthew shared that Camila declined… but he managed to change her mind in just a few seconds:
“The first word out of her mouth was not ‘yes.’ I’m not gonna say what it was. But I did say, ‘Look, I’m down on a knee. I’ll stay here awhile. I will outlast you.’ And I did! She conceded.”
Aww! Well we’re sure Matthew breathed his final sigh of relief when Camila said “I do” this month.
But we’re still curious…

I am a fan of Matthew, but think that both of them have a distorted view on mirarage. Marriage provides saftey for the woman and the child. Even if they get married and have a divorse (which would be sad!) she still has legal rights to him, his stuff, and he has to pay child support to her. Right now he could just take off, leave Camila and her child and be totally scott free. Of course he doesn’t want to get married he can have sex with her, enjoy her company and their child and have no resposibility. Really, Camila, you are getting the short end, girl.
