Christian Bale, the lead star in Christopher Nolan‘s Batman film franchise which includes the concluding installment “The Dark Knight Rises,” was so heartbroken about last week’s horrific shooting rampage that he went to Denver, Colorado to visit the victims and their families.

KDVR reports that the actor was spotted at the memorial for the victims and again at the Aurora Medical Center to check up on recovering victims.

“The Dark Knight Rises” was showing when crazed and drugged gunman James Holmes opened fire on the crowd during the shooting and you can imagine the surprise of the victims and their families when they saw the actor in person after all that went down.

One witness reported:

“A couple next to me asked me to pray with them. “There were about six or seven of us. And then prayer was over, and I was taking some pictures and realized who I was pretty much standing next to was Christian Bale.”

Shooting victims Carey Rottman, whose leg gun shot wound probably felt a little better, posted a photo of himself and the actor which he captioned:

“Wow!!! Thank you so much for the visit Christian!! What a great guy! Still in shock!”

According to TMZ, a rep for Warner Bros. then released a statement, presumably to dispel any speculation that Bale‘s visit was a promotional move for the film:

Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers.”

How sweet is he?
