According to the latest star news, NICK CANNON doesn’t think “American Idol” can afford to hire his wife MARIAH CAREY as a judge on the show.
Now that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have announced that they’re quitting, “American Idol” is two judges short. Or even three, if Randy Jackson decides to leave, too.
And rumor has it that Mariah Carey is in talks to become a judge on the show… along with current top contenders Adam Lambert and Charlie Sheen (the weirdest choice yet).
But here’s the thing—if “American Idol” wants to get Mariah (and it will be pretty awesome if they do) to join the judge’s panel, they’re gonna have to shell out some major bucks… at least according to her hubby, Nick Cannon.
When TMZ asked the actor if Mariah was going to join the long-running singing competition show, he replied:
“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That’s a lot of money. If they gave JLo $20 million, they might have to double that!”
That sounds reasonable. After all, Mariah is a hugely talented singer—no offense to Jenny From The Block, of course.
When asked if there was a chance of it happening, Nick said:
“I don’t know! I’m not her manager, I’m her husband!”
But he then added:
“You never know…”
