RUSSELL BRAND recently revealed to star news that he’d rather be a drug addict than rich and famous.
He must be kidding…
Thanks to his comedy stints and, most importantly, his highly publicized relationship with pop star Katy Perry (which eventually led to divorce), Russell finds himself at the top with many other Hollywood A-listers.
But in a new documentary about on BBC (airing on August 16) which traces his journey from being a heroin user, the British comedian admitted that he’d rather be back in his dark days than become the celebrity that he is now.
Upon watching an old clip of himself smoking heroin in “Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery,” he confesses:
“This is when you know it’s a disease. It doesn’t matter that I sat in that flat in Hackney and now I’m in the [upscale hotel] Savoy. I’m jealous of me then.”
He explains:
“It doesn’t make a difference to me. The money, the fame, the power, the sex, the women — none of it. I’d rather be a drug addict.”
In the documentary, Brand goes on to explain how what he called the “greedy drug” can “take everything” from a person:
“First it’ll take your money. Then it’ll take your friends, your family, your car, your house.”
He continues:
“Then it’s going to take bits of your body. In the end I used to be scoring with people that had eyes missing, limbs missing ‘You’ll take it until it takes your life. It’ll take everything until the last thing and you’ll gladly give it that rather than give up the drugs.”
Sounds like Hollywood, indeed.
Do you agree with Russell‘s analogy?
