JESSICA SIMPSON is being criticized over a bikini photo of her 4-month-old daughter Maxwell Drew, which she shared during a recent appearance on Katie Couric‘s daytime talk show.
The revelation of her “new” post-pregnancy bod and her just-released commercial for “Weight Watchers” weren’t the only shockers during Jessica Simpson‘s interview on “Katie“ last Monday—the first time mom also shared a photo of her and her husband Eric Johnson’s big-eyed 4-month-old daughter, Maxwell Drew, in a yellow knot two-piece!
Though Jessica obviously found it adorable, many Twitter users and a British child welfare group, Kidscape, just found it “inappropriate.”
Kidscape’s group director, Claude Knights, explained their issue with the picture to the Daily Mail:
“It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini. Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and manners are copied widely.”
“It is hoped that parents will understand that ‘baby bikinis’ are totally inappropriate and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood. We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children’s early years.”
Also according to the site, many tweeted negative reactions towards Jessica‘s move. One tweeted:
“Jessica Simpson posts a photo of her 4-month-old baby in a BIKINI – wrong wrong wrong.”
“A baby in a bikini?! Dear God, some people are just wrong!”
One user felt sorry for Maxwell, saying:
“I just saw the most ridiculously posed photo of Jessica Simpson’s baby in a bikini. Just awful. Poor poppet.”
Do you think Maxwell‘s bikini photo is adorable or just plain wrong?
