The world was shaken up when shocking topless photos of Kate Middleton while sunbathing with her husband Prince William in a private home in France, debuted on the cover of French magazine, Closer, late last week.

And just this Monday, Closer’s Italian sister tabloid, Chi, fearlessly published the same invasive photographs (and more in a 26-page spread in this week’s issue) despite learning that Closer is being sued for “breach of privacy.” Rumor also has it that the photos are currently making their way into other foreign publications.

But the “saddened” Duchess of Cambridge, her protective husband and their royal family have had it with all the disrespect.

In order to stop further publication of the revealing photos, the royals have decided to file a criminal complaint in France. According to a report by BBC News UK, a palace spokeswoman said in a statement:

“We can confirm that a criminal complaint is to be made to the French Prosecution Department.”

It seems the target is also still Closer’s editor, Laurence Pieau, and the paparazzi. The rep clarified:

“It concerns the taking of photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge whilst on holiday and the publication of those photographs in breach of their privacy.”

If convicted by French law, the photographer/s and Closer could face thousands of euros in files and a year in jail.

No word on whether or not the royal couple and their lawyer are planning to take a similar legal action in Italy to target Chi.
