TAYLOR SWIFT has called ex-boyfriend JOHN MAYER “presumptuous” for thinking her song “Dear John” is about him.
Well, isn’t it, Taylor?
Since Taylor has this habit of writing songs about her exes, everyone is inclined to believe that her song “Dear John” was written about her ex-boyfriend, John Mayer —and of course, that includes John himself. In fact, John is so certain that the song’s about him that he actually talked about it in a recent interview.
But when Taylor found out that John had just assumed that her song was about him, she told Glamour:
“How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about.”
It’s not exactly rocket science, since Taylor released the song a few months after she and John ended their short-lived relationship.
Oh, and the title is “Dear John”. Who else would it be about?
Unlike the rest of Taylor’s exes, who have all had a song written about them by the 22-year-old country singer, John actually confirmed that it was about him when he sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in June. He said:
“It made me feel terrible because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
John added:
“I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bulls**t. [And] I will say as a songwriter that I think it’s kind of cheap songwriting.”
Kind of mean, right? Fortunately, Taylor doesn’t know exactly what John said—and she has no plans of finding out. The singer explained:
“I know it wasn’t good, so I don’t want to know… I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can’t handle.”
She continued:
“It’s not that I’m this egomaniac and I don’t want to hear anything negative, because I do keep myself in check… But I’ve never developed that thick a skin. So I just kind of live a life, and I let all the gossip live somewhere else. If you go too far down the rabbit hole of what people think about you, it can change everything about who you are.”
