CARLY RAE JEPSEN says she’s not trying to look younger than her age…
Well, she doesn’t really have to try all that hard anyway, does she?
Thanks to her ever-present full bangs and her colorful outfits—not to mention her teenybopper songs with their catchy lyrics and bubblegum melodies—Carly Rae Jepsen seems a lot younger than she really is.
But the 27-year-old singer (yes, you read that right, she’s 27), who is often criticized for promoting a youthful image to attract a younger audience, wants people to know that she’s not doing it on purpose—she isn’t trying to look younger so as to appeal to the more lucrative teenybopper demographic that is the main bread and butter of her good friend and fellow Canadian musician, Justin Bieber.
Jepsen tells Cosmopolitan:
“If people think I look younger, then that’s great; I’m stoked… But I turned 27 in November, and when I look in the mirror, I see all of the years attached to that face, and I’m content with me.”
The “Call Me Maybe” singer continues:
“For me, the goal of music has never been ‘I need to be the biggest superstar in the world.’ It was ‘I want to spend my life doing this, and I want to make a career that I can live off of so I don’t have to tend bar and waitress to make this fly.’”
“I don’t want to be Cinderella for a night. I want to be Cinderella for life.”
