According to recent Hollywood news, ROBERT PATTINSON has opened up about the fact that he suffered depression for two years due to his immense “Twilight” fame.
Being the world’s most famous vampire is not easy.
When “Twilight” first came out, the main stars—specifically Robert Pattinson and his on-again girlfriend Kristen Stewart—became the recipients of such immense media attention and fame that the mere mention of their names began causing stampedes of massive Twi-hard proportions all over the world. In fact, it became so bad that the couple, who is constantly photographed everywhere they go, have had to beef up their security teams just to ensure their safety from their vampire-crazed fans.
The experience, apparently, was particularly hard for the notoriously private Robert, who almost quit Hollywood because of all the craziness.
In an interview with French magazine Premiere, the British actor revealed that such was his dislike for his celebrity… that he ended up suffering from depression for two whole years. He shares:
“I went through a big time of depression between 23 and 25, I couldn’t go where I wanted to go… I was in the tabloids every day and I didn’t have access to the roles I really wanted. I wanted more, on every level.”
Rob also admitted that he had been hoping that “Twilight” would eventually get him the meatier roles that he really wanted, but it was not the case—at least not for a few years. He explains:
“I thought everything was going to be served on a plate but that’s not how it works… I finally realized that you needed to earn this change I so desperately wanted. That one way or another, you had to suffer to be able to make it.”
The “Twilight” hunk’s depression eventually lifted when he was finally offered a role on director David Cronenberg’s drama film “Cosmopolis,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
“I saw Kristen leave to film Snow White and the Huntsman, Taylor was also doing his thing on the side, and I was just going in circles, asking myself if I was going to take a break and go back to music . . . Then one day David called and I went crazy.”
Since then, Pattinson has gotten great roles in films such as “Bel Ami,” “The Rover,” “Queen of the Desert,” and more.
