Oscar nominations to be announced in less than an hour and a half, that’s 5:30 am Los Angeles time at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The nominees are expected to include Daniel Day-Lewis, Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett for movies There Will Be Blood, Sweeney Todd and I’m Not There.

There is still some doubt about the impact the ongoing US writers’ strike will have on the format of the 80th Academy Awards ceremony on 24 February.

The winners for the 2008 Golden Globe Awards were announced last night at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. There were no stars, no Hollywood power players, no red carpet… Not with the Writer’s Guild strike still going strong. Winners will receive this year’s Globe awards by mail.

And the winners are…

Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett for her portrayal of Bob Dylan in I’m Not There. Blanchett beat out favorite Amy Ryan from Ben Affleck-directed, Gone Baby Gone.

Seriously I have never thought of Cate Blanchett as good looking, cute, sexy or anything of that sort. Ok perhaps she’s classy in a way. And watching her starring opposite Brad Pitt in Babel was an agony because I love Brad Pitt and thought they could have found him a better looking opposite perhaps his own, Angelina Jolie. OMG! Cate Blanchett looks like a skeleton at the Fashion Institute Gala. I think too skinny like this is scary! Don’t you? Blanchett needs to be fed!

Penelope Cruz & Leonardo DiCaprio have something in common. Cruz and DiCaprio are both Oscar leading role nominees and both hoping to take home an Oscar tonight! Yesterday, they were at the Giorgio Armani Prive fashion show.

Sitting together were Cate Blanchett, Clive Owen, George Clooney, Penelope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio & Beyonce.

Penelope Cruz looked absolutely stunning!

If this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards is any indication, real women have taken over Hollywood, leaving size zeros in their wake.

Consider these award-winning shapely actresses, who might not fit in a size 6, but sure look good behind the podium: America Ferrera, 22, for Ugly Betty, Jennifer Hudson, 25, for Dreamgirls, and the full-sized but gorgeous Chandra Wilson, 37, for Grey’s Anatomy (who also hilariously thanked her ten cast members and “the other one in rehab.”)
