This just in from the Better Late Than Never Department: Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are engaged.

Capping a Valentine’s weekend in style, Richie announced during Monday’s taping of the Late Show With David Letterman that, after three years of courtship, two children and one confused lawyer, she and her rocking beau are finally ready to walk the aisle.

Awwww, I wonder what finally prompted them to make the move? Will Nicole opt for a big blowout or a more private ceremony?

Instead of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper and the late Michael Jackson (whose previously recorded voice, however, will be heard on the tune), the 2010 version will be headlined by Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Wyclef Jean, Josh Groban and Will.I.Am. It features a newly penned hip-hop break written by the Black Eyed Peas leader that makes reference to the January 12 earthquake in Haiti, the victims of which will benefit from the song’s proceeds.

Among the rap artists making the cut for “We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” are T-Pain, Kanye West, Bizzy Bone, Kid Cudi, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Mann, Nipsey Hussle, Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz.

And though rumored participants such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake were not in attendance, the sessions did feature a number of current stars such as Miley Cyrus, Keri Hilson and Best New Artist Grammy winner Zac Brown.

There were the requisite classic artists who pitched in, including Barbra Streisand; Carlos Santana; Natalie Cole; BeBe Winans; the members of Heart; Freda Payne; Harry Connick Jr.; Earth, Wind & Fire; the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and Al Jardine; Tony Bennett; “Slumdog Millionaire” film score composer A.R. Rahman; “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson; Patti Austin; Celine Dion and Gladys Knight. A few actors were in the studio (Jeff Bridges and Vince Vaughn), as well as the offspring of co-producers Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones, Nicole Richie and “Parks and Recreation” star Rashida Jones, and the members of 3T (the sons of Tito Jackson), Taj, Taryll and TJ Jackson.

Joel and Benji Madden were on hand, as were Akon, Brandy, Melanie Fiona, Mya, Musiq Soulchild, Katharine McPhee, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, “Heroes” actor Jimmy Jean-Louis (“the Haitian”) and former Michael Jackson guitarist Orianthi.

Also pitching in according to a press statement from organizers were the members of Sugarland, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Mraz, India.Arie, Mary Mary, Tyrese Gibson, Raphael Saadiq, Pink, Jordin Sparks, Rob Thomas, Usher, the Fray’s Isaac Slade, child prodigy pianist Ethan Bortnick, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Thicke, Jamie Foxx, Maroon 5′s Adam Levine, the Jonas Brothers, Nicole Scherzinger and Julianne Hough.

Co-producer Richie said that Janet Jackson would be laying down her version of Michael Jackson’s part on Tuesday, and he hinted that some other artists might also be added over the next few days.

OK, so is there anyone who was NOT in on making this record? It sounds like a huge deal. Are you going to buy it?

Joel seems like a pretty cool guy, except the radio hosts pushed his buttons. From Popeater:

According to a FOX FM page (which was later taken down), the mood in the studio changed when Madden and his brother Benji were asked to test out that old wives tale that twins can sense what the other one is feeling. Benji put on an eye mask and Joel was handed the famous photo of Britney getting out of a car without her undies on.

Joel was not happy and then left without finishing. He said via Twitter:

“Just walked out of a FOXfm interview in Melbourne not in the mood to be a clown.”

He continued, “Most of the time I can put up with idiot morning show hosts but not today. I guess I have finally found some aussie’s I don’t get on with…”

What kind of stunt were they trying to pull? Does it seem like a harmless game gone wrong or did Joel have a hissy?

Joel doesn’t seem to mince words when a topic is close to him. This is his updates via his Twitter page as they landed:

Let me just say shame on any magazine or blog that post pics of us in the miami airport. The photographers were acting like animals.

it was the first time i’ve ever seen my child scared. Not cool for any parent to see. At least in LA they gave us some space.

These guys were sticking flashes in her face and bumping in to us and yelling. The most unneccessary force i’ve ever seen.

Why can’t photographers all be reasonable men and women taking pictures? Would you want your child scared like that?  No…so don’t do it to someone else’s!! Therefore, the pictures of them in the airport won’t be used!

Actually, Joel looks better than I had anticipated he would look.  As long as he keeps the roots blonde and doesn’t do a half baked thing with white blonde and dark brown mix.  His eyebrows kind of stick out a little though.  Celebuzz says:

Well, people start looking like their pets after a while, so I guess partners can start looking alike too.  Do you like Joel’s new look or should he go back to natural?  Nicole looks good blonde…

I forget, but isn’t Joel old enough to tell Tila to go away himself?  Does he like to make his baby mama scream at women to stay away from him?  He must, because the news has reported that it has happened a few times.  Or is it that Nicole is unjustly jealous?  From the Enquirer:

Pregnant Nicole Richie lashed out at MTV’s Tila “Tequila” Nguyen at an Oscar-night party when the sexy reality TV star seemed to make a play for Nic’s baby daddy, Joel Madden.

Nicole and Joel were celebrating the news that Nicole is expecting the couple’s second child at a party at the Hollywood Hills on Feb 22 when Tila showed up.

“As soon as Tila saw Joel, she ran up to him and started acting super flirty – grabbing and hugging him,” an eyewitness told the Enquirer.

“Nicole had her back turned, but when she realized that Tila was all over him, she ran up and yelled, ‘Joel… JOEL!!’

“When he didn’t respond right away, Nicole pulled Joel away to their table.”

But Tila wasn’t about to give up – and she tried approaching Joel a second time.

“That was the last straw for Nicole,” revealed the eyewitness. “She got right in Tila’s face and screamed ‘Back off and get out of here!’”

Ha!  Poor little Tila. Go find yourself a different shot of love…

Can we take a walk down memory lane and try to wrap our head around the fact Nicole freaking Richie is procreating? Remember when she was Paris Hilton‘s chunky heroin-addicted party pal who terrorized everyone on the Simple Life? And then remember when she was Paris’ skeletal frenemy who drove on the wrong side of the highway gooped up on pain pills?

Khloe Kardashian, the tall sister of Kim is looking hotter than we could ever imagine, honestly never thought Khloe could make the cut. Hey, they say as you get famous, you look hotter - Can’t debate that.

Paris Hilton is still Paris Hilton, her steady relationship with Benji Madden is over and now it’s Paris back to the drawing board again.

Amy Winehouse is still being associated to drug abuse even without Blake Fielder-Civil.

A lot of celebrity arrests as usual, Christian Bale, the Batman star (Dark Knight), was arrested after allegedly assaulting his mother and sister. The charges were subsequently dropped.

Kanye West was arrested for hitting a paparazzi. The pap, who called the cops on Kanye claims that he was assaulted by West and suffered multiple cuts and bruises. West said otherwise.. “I DIDN’T ASSAULT HIM BUT MERELY PUTTING MY HAND UP TO COVER HIS LENS. I GUESS IN ALL THE COMMOTION THE CAMERA SCRAPED HIS NOSE.” In fact, Kanye was arrested twice, another time in the wee hours for assaulting a photographer in the UK. The arrest list goes on…

As for celebrities who gave birth in 2008. I need a few hours to finish naming them all just to name a few – Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed twins – a boy and a girl. Nicole Richie and Joey Madden’s baby girl was born on January 11th and amazingly Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman’s son was born a day later in the same hospital. Perhaps they will grow up to be girlfriend and boyfriend, who know.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony also had twins – a boy and a girl. Halle Berry and her drop dead gorgeous beau, Gabriel Aubry had a baby girl in March.

Jessica Alba and Cash Warren also had a baby girl this June. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban had a baby girl in July. The controversial teen pregnancy of Britney Spears’ little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears made gossip headlines when she announced her pregnancy and finally gave birth to a baby girl in July.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed their second son back in August. Victoria’s Secret’s hot model, Alessandra Ambrosio and boyfriend, Jamie Mazur had a baby girl in August as well.
Naomi Watts and Liev Schreider had their second son, just a couple weeks back. Right before them, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz welcomed their son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz in November.
The list goes on.. I told you it would take forever. 2008 has been a year of lots of celebrity pregnancies.

Now the ones who are suspected to be pregnant – Our diva, Mariah Carey for one.

2008 is coming to an end and we hope the recession ends with it too and 2009 will be a much better year for all of us. A fat pocketbook and a year filled with love, joy and happiness.

For those who don’t know him, Boy George formed his very successful band in the early 80s, Culture Club, he’s gay if you can’t tell. He struggled against his severe heroin addiction for many years.

How important it is to be monogamous for you? For me, it’s everything. The entire purpose of building a life together is defeated if the other party cheats, hey, then again, I am a chick flick, philosophical person. No, seriously that’s my thinking. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I wonder how much People magazine paid Nicole for the photo? The Aguilera cover of People, for which the singer was reportedly paid close to $2 million for, sold only 1.3 million copies. The average weekly sales for People is 1.4 million.

Richie and Joel Madden’s first child, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, was born on the same day as Aguilera’s son, Max Bratman - January 12th – at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles. – NZ Herald

It has been reported Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, have also sold the rights for the first photos of their newborn twins to People magazine

We are very blessed she’s healthy and beautiful and so good already,” Madden told People magazine on Saturday. “We are very happy.”

6-lb 7-oz Harlow Winter Kate Madden was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Friday. It is the first child for 26-year-old Richie and 28-year-old Madden.

Congratulations! Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie became mothers within hours of each other after giving birth in the same LA hospital. Amazing perhaps their kids will become boyfriend and girlfriend when they grow up! How cute!

Madden and Nicole Richie don’t know if they are expecting an “awesome” boy or girl, they’re already tackling important pronoun issues — as a couple. “Right now it’s an it,” he said, before adding, “Which sounds wrong. We call it the baby. When we talk to it, it’s a you.”

Dad-to-be Madden assured Seacrest that marriage remains part of the plan for him and Richie. He told Seacrest “Obviously, marriage is in our future.” Still, he conceded that their lives don’t really permit wedding planning right now. “I don’t know when or where or how, but right now our priority is our family and the baby. That’s all we’ve been thinking about. We are in love and are really happy.”

I think that is so great! Joel Madden & Nicole Richie have never looked happier. Richie looks healthy & most important they are in love! Hope they will beat the odds in La La Land & make it last a life time. They look good together! Aww!
