After showing Letterman a video of her pulling the same prank on CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper at Times Square, Kathy proceeded to disrobe before a bemused Dave, who stood by leering like a creepy uncle.

Oh, well…it wasn’t as much fun as watching a younger Drew Barrymore flash Letterman in 1995, but after those 2009 allegations of affairs with considerably younger show subordinates, maybe Kathy Griffin baring her middle-aged body to him is a safer alternative CBS producers will tolerate…

But hey, it was all in good fun. Kirstie, who appeared as a guest on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ yesterday, asked David:

“Do you love me still? Because I feel I’m a little estranged from you. I thought you loved me madly and then you would talk about me being sort of… “chub.” But some of your jokes we’re funny!”

After affirming that he did love her, David admitted:

“I did make jokes about the weight.”

Kirstie recently lost a lot of weight during her stint on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ as reported by celebrity gossip websites. But despite her weight loss, the actress was, for a while, the butt of a whole lot of fat jokes.

During the interview, Kirstie whipped out a piece of paper (from her cleavage) and, ignoring the talk show host’s protests, proceeded to read off the list of fat jokes he had ever made about her. She started with:

“Kirstie Alley is joining Dancing with the Stars … if you don’t already own one now might be a good time to get a wide-screen TV.”

And then she read another:

“Last night on Dancing with the Stars, Kirstie Alley fell over on the dance floor … how many of you felt it?”

And another:

“The judges scored [Alley’s dance] an eight — on the Richter Scale.”

After a few minutes of looking uncomfortable, David responded:

“We do love you, and if you were skinny, we would tell jokes about you… Uh, probably not.”

Yikes! Good thing Kirstie was such a good sport.

Except Lindsay had no desire to appear on the show. Whoops, Michael – it may have behooved you to check with her first. After the news leaked to the media, the show released this statement:

“Lindsay Lohan will not be delivering a Top Ten list on Thursday’s LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, as had been previously announced. We made a mistake. Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay’s reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear. Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf. We wish Lindsay well, and look forward to having her on the show in the future.”

Oh, Michael. Everything good he does just turns to rubbish.

David Letterman boldly asked the diminutive ‘Jersey Shore’ party animal when she appeared on ‘Late Show.’ “Do you think, uh, um, maybe you need to abstain?” She replied, “I definitely don’t think I have a problem. I mean, when we’re not filming I hardly go out. I hardly drink. It’s just, you know, it’s summer.”

Letterman divulged that friends used to send him Alcoholics Anonymous brochures listing seven signs that one may have a problem. “Number one was always, ‘Do you drink in the morning?’” he told her.

OK, she’s on TV. Maybe the Jersey Shore makes her out to be a party girl and she really isn’t – all the time. What do you think? When she was arrested for her public intoxication in the summer, it was in the morning. Coincidence?

 David said he heard young girls screaming like crazy when Justin came in. He wanted to know if that happens to Justin everywhere else? Justin said a lot of places. David then asked if Bieb used the Twitter device to update his activities? He said yes.

Justin then asked David if he wanted him to Twitter him? David said sure but he was pretty lost. Justin went on his Twitter and sent David’s Late Show a tweet:

“I’m hanging out with my Dave at @late_show we need to get him twice as many followers!’ Bieber tweeted.

Justin is so cute, I can’t wait to hear him when his voice actually cracks. Oh in case you didn’t know, Bieb will be featured with Ozzy Osbourne in the Best Buy Super Bowl ad this coming Sunday!

Joaquin says Letterman was not in on the joke or hoax or whatever you want to call it. Last night he went on air and said he was sorry.

Actor Joaquin Phoenix returned to David Letterman’s “Late Show” on Wednesday to apologize for his wacky appearance last year that turned out to be an elaborate piece of performance art.

“You’ve interviewed many, many people and I assumed that you would know the difference between a character and a real person, so — but I apologize,” Phoenix said. “I hope I didn’t offend you in any way.”

No offense taken, Letterman replied. The chance to lob jokes at Phoenix was like batting practice, he said.

“Every one of them was a dinger,” he said.

Phoenix was clean-cut and shaven Wednesday, without the shaggy beard, unruly hair and sunglasses he wore on Feb. 11, 2009, when he told a befuddled Letterman that he was giving up acting for a rap career. Describing that appearance on Wednesday, Letterman said it was “like you slipped and hit your head in the tub.”

Now everyone can say see, I told you he was acting! Are you going to watch Phoneix’s movie?

A Late Show spokesman said the spot was Letterman’s idea, and Leno and Oprah were willing participants.

Letterman and Oprah Winfrey did a Super Bowl commercial together back in 2007 for “Late Show” as well. I am posting both the videos, the one of last night with the trio and the one back in Super Bowl 2007 with just Letterman and Oprah. They are both funny!

She went on to say that her romantic and personal privacy is “sacred,” and that she doesn’t “give details about it because I am allergic to that.”

Never one to give up easily, Letterman then joked with Cruz, asking her, “So you know, but you don’t want to tell me?” Cruz snapped back with laughter, saying “I choose not to share some things!”

 Aha! So I think she is engaged. Why else would penelope deflect like that? She could have just said no. What do you think – Penelope and Javier?

It appears that the sex is caught on a security camera and not one Dave had set up. So that means there are other parties who have the tape in their hands. Oh oh. From the Newser:

“Dave apparently didn’t know the location of the security cameras at his Late Night studios,” says a source, who hints that the footage could sink his career and marriage.

“If the tape makes its way into the criminal case, it’ll explode his marriage to smithereens,” says the source, referring to proceedings against a CBS employee who tried to blackmail Letterman.

I think Dave is lucky he is still married as it is, without sex tapes leaking. His creep factor went up a little bit, in my opinion. What do you think?

Some say Stephanie is on a paid leave of absence. Others say she has been kicked off the set until they can figure out a way to deal with her. From TMZ:

Sources tell TMZ that security at CBS is well aware of Birkitt’s ban from the set.

Worldwide Pants just issued the following statement: “Stephanie is on paid leave of absence … she has not been banned from the Ed Sullivan Theatre.”

But TMZ just spoke with someone associated with security at Letterman who just told us, “Security got a verbal order that she is ‘banned’ from the property for the time being.”

Interesting. But then, what do you do with your former lover when she is still employed by you and you are married? Wait, maybe she isn’t former….

From Pop Eater: “She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it,” he said during his opening monologue. “At that point, there’s only two things that can happen: Either you’re going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you’re going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me.”

Letterman admitted on Thursday on his late show to having sexual relationships with some of his female employees.

As reports by TMZ via Pop Eater, Birkitt is the girlfriend and ex-roommate of Robert “Joe” Halderman, producer of ’48 Hours’ producer who was indicted on Friday for blackmailing Letterman of $2 million in exchange for his silence on the sexual affairs.

It is believed Birkitt and Letterman had a sexual relationship that ended before his marriage and the birth of his son, Harry, in 2003. Birkitt is reportedly “mortified Halderman is using her fling with Letterman to blackmail her boss.” – via Radar Online via  Pop Eater

Birkitt is a 1997 graduate of Wake Forest University. Birkitt worked for Letterman for over a decade and eventually became his assistant.

Three weeks ago, Letterman received a package from a sender who claimed to have information about Letterman,62 and his employees’ alleged sexual activities. The sender threatened to go public with the info if $2 million was not paid up by Letterman. Letterman tells his studio audience earlier tonight on his show.

“This morning, I did something I’ve never done in my life,” “I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury.”
Letterman admitted to engaging in sexual relationships with his staff members in his testimony, “My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would.”

He added, “I feel like I need to protect these people – I need to certainly protect my family.” – via People magazine

Letterman eventually met and gave a phony $2 million check to the alleged extortionist – who was arrested on Thursday.

As the interview progressed, Dave called Spencer “creepy” and “oily” and expressed his disgust that Spencer was the one who started the Lauren Conrad sex tape rumor from last year. Via usmagazine.com, Dave then expressed his disappointment when he found out there was no tape, “I would’ve liked to see it he said.”

He then went on to call Brody Jenner a “load.” When LC expressed her confusion at the adjective “load” Dave quipped, “the only thing you can do with a load is unload.”

Say what you will about Letterman, but he truly is at his best when matching wits with young Hollywood. Sort of like a hybrid between the creepy old guy at the bar and a loving uncle. Click here for the video.

How bizarre was Phoenix? At the end of the interview, David Letterman said, “We owe an apology to Farrah Fawcett.” Because by comparison to the bearded actor, her wacky appearance a few years ago now seems relatively sane. (Verne Gay has a side-by-side comparison of Fawcett vs. Joaquin. And just for fun, Herc has video of the infamous incident with Crispin Glover, who may still rank as the all-time weirdest Letterman guest.)

Of course, Letterman being Letterman, he gave the uncooperative Phoenix no breaks, and who can blame him? If a star comes on to your show to promote his or her movie, but instead speaks incoherently and sticks a piece of chewing gum on your desk, well, that’s not going to get a favorable reception from Dave.

“What can you tell us about your days with the Unabomber?” Letterman said at one point.

I feel sorry for Joaquin for the part that seems insecure.  But why is his agent putting him on the media rounds?   His music isn’t for sale yet, so why is he promoting himself on the circuit?  Is this all a big stunt?  Something just smells fishy about it.

He sort of brought up her romance with John Mayer, but it lasted 15 seconds before he waved it off with a “well you seem happy” type of statement. How refreshing. Anyway, check out the first and second halves of the interview with a scene from “Marley and Me.”
