DJ AM died in his New York City apartment at the age of 36 on August 28th, and investigators weren’t 100% sure his death was the result of  an overdose or suicide.

Medical Examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove told People.com Tuesday that a number of drugs were found in his system at the time of his death.

“..the drugs in his [Goldstein] system included cocaine (she could not specify whether it was crack cocaine or powder cocaine), Levamisole (an drug commonly used to cut cocaine), oxycodone (the active ingredient in OxyContin), hydrocodone (a powerful pain reliever), and Ativan, Klonapin and Xanax, all anti-anxiety drugs.”

Wow. That is quite the killer combo. Literally.

People.com had excerpts of Haley‘s speech. This is what she said:

“We talked of marriage and excitement of having children together. He would whisper in my ear sometimes before we went to sleep, ‘Goodnight, my sweet angel.’ Most mornings when I woke up, he’d make me toast and juice and say, ‘Good morning, soulmate.’ I will cherish the memories forever…Even though our time together was short, I would change nothing,” Wood added. “The love I continue to feel for him and the love that we shared together will live with me and those who witnessed us together forever. … I will never be the same without him. A part of me has passed away with him. Even the warmest of days will never compare to the warmth I felt when I touched him. He was my soulmate, and now he is my soul. He was my amazing grace.”

DJ AM passed away of a drug overdose at the age of 36 in his apartment in New York City.

DJ AM has made no secret about his past drug use. He had been clean for 11 years, but filming his MTV show might have put him too close to drugs. He was found with the pills in his system, plus a crack pipe and half bag of crack with him.  According to People Magazine:

The finding suggests that DJ AM – real name Adam Goldstein – swallowed the powerful painkillers quickly. “He wanted to die,” says the source, who says the suicide theory is supported by the pills and other evidence. “He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn’t even swallow it.”

The autopsy results won’t be released until toxicology reports come back. It doesn’t sound like he died of natural causes, however. RIP Adam.

When they confronted him on Thursday, he promised to enter rehab the following week — after his Friday night gig in Las Vegas. Pals say (via The New York Post) he was apprehensive about flying after the near-fatal plane crash last September. In order to dull the fear he was popping pills like Vicodin, oxycodone, Xanax and lorazepam. The combination of those downers and the crack cocaine is what presumably killed him.

The results of the toxicology report have still not come back.

While DJ AM was an avid drug user in his past, the 36-year-old had been clean for 9 years. The fact he was using again (a crack pipe was found near his dead body) was a shock to close friends.

“I can’t believe the drug stories. AM didn’t even touch alcohol. He wasn’t a party guy. It’s hard to believe,” DJ Scotty Boy told PEOPLE. “The [2008] plane accident made AM very humble. He cared more about life and his friends. It was hard enough when we heard about the accident and now to hear this, it hasn’t really hit yet. It’s kind of unbelievable.”

Aside from Hayley Wood, DJ AM dated Mandy Moore in 2008 and Nicole Ritchie in 2005-2006.

DJ AM, 36 was found face-down in his bed wearing only sweat pants, with a crack pipe and unspecified prescription drugs.

His past struggles:
In an interview with The New York Times in 2007, Goldstein said he drank heavily, used cocaine and smoked crack in his early 20s. He reached his lowest point when he attempted suicide in 1997.

After a night of doing cocaine, Goldstein, 24 at the time, sat before a mirror and “could not move away from staring at myself,” he said. He put a gun in his mouth and, sobbing, said, “God, please help me.” – People

Goldstein also told NY Times in the same interview that he had cleaned up his life — including having gastric bypass surgery after his weight ballooned to 324 pounds — and had managed to stay sober for nine years.

DJ AM survived a near-fatal plane crash back in September 2008. Goldstein and Travis Barker were the only survivors.

Goldstein had dated Nicole Richie and they got engaged back in 2005. The two called off their engagement in December of that year. He also dated Mandy Moore and they broke up in 2007. Goldstein most recently dated model Hayley Wood, they were said to have called it quit earlier this month.

Too young to die. Rest in Peace.

Somehow DJ AM is a hot piece in the L.A. scene because he’s already scored a new girl. The 35-year-old is dating 22-year-old American Apparel model Hayley Wood. See, that just seems scuzzy. Once guys graduate into the land of 35 and higher methinks it’s time to date someone who’s been able to drink for a good five years and can rent a car.

I think Travis’ lawsuit was over the top and so is Adam’s.  Per Dlisted, this is who he is suing:

DJ AM is suing the estates of the two pilots who died in the crash as well as Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel & Services Inc, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, and Learjet.

And this is what he is suing for:

DJ AM wants cash money for pain, suffering, lost earnings, property damage, punitive damages and past and future health-related expenses.

Do either of them think suing the estate of the dead pilot’s is going to make them feel better?  Do they not realize the pilots are DEAD while they are both lucky enough to be alive this Christmas?  I hope their Hollywood lawyers don’t win this case, because those families are suffering through a holiday alone.

Jason Shumpert of the South Congaree Police Department said was “divine intervention” adding the the two ”should be commended for being able to get out and keep their heads together.”

After being released from Doctors Hospital in August, Georgia, DJ AM wrote on his Facebook status update: ”Adam Goldstein is the luckiest guy alive.”

While the cause of the crash is still to be determined, a blow tire during takeoff is most likely to blame.

As reports by TMZ that Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, Georgia said both Travis and Adam suffered second and third-degree burns. Mullins said Barker’s torso and Adam’s hands and part of his head were burned.

People reports that Travis’ ex, Shanna Moakler has flown in to be with Travis. Shanna’s mother said they haven’t told Travis’ kids yet.

Former Playboy Playmate Shanna Moakler, 33, was married to Barker from 2004 until earlier this year. They have two children: son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2.

We wish them a full and speedy recovery. Remember to live the presence.

The plane was headed to Van Nuys, California shortly before midnight on Friday. The plane never made it in the air and instead crashed off the runway.
