Disney’s television transplant earned $42 million, according to Sunday’s estimates, giving it the best premiere ever for a movie musical — by a mile. The previous champ in this category, Mamma Mia!, banked $27.8 mil on its first weekend a few months ago, and last year’s Hairspray opened with $27.5 mil. 

HSM3 also boasted the top opening of all time for a live-action G-rated movie, passing the $31.1 mil that Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert brought in earlier this year as reports by EW.

Coincidentally, Zac Efron is also in Hairspray! 

I promised to give you my review of the movie which I couldn’t wait to see. At a time like this, grim economy, election running in full gear, it’s nothing better than having a good escape. Less than 2 hours of clean escape, no booze, no whining just feeling upbeat looking at those fresh and wholesome young cast performing.  It’s clean, wholesome and upbeat. I think this is as good as it gets at a time like this. Yeah, I sound like sh#t like everyone else. But I am very forward thinking. Next week, we have a new start, a new President of the United States and a brand new hope. Heck, as long as the stock market goes up and the economy picks up as far as I’m concerned I don’t care if you became the president.

Zac Efron rocks and so does the rest of the HSM 3 cast! Go see the movie, you’ll feel better.

A Rolling Stone cover story called him “The new American heartthrob.” But it’s not just an American thing. As Efron toured the world to promote the latest “HSM,” the Daily Mail of London described him as “the world’s biggest teen idol.”

Out in Sweden, all the Swedish girls are crazy about him just like the rest of the world. Trust me, good looking guys in Sweden are a dime a dozen – (only until they hit their mid-thirties then it’s all downhill, hmm must be the booze that the Europeans consume, no idea) but Zac, to the Swedes is the best. The little girls love him; the teenagers do and even the grown-ups. He grows on you.

The thing is Zac is wholesome, he’s scandal-free and that’s really a rare commodity in Hollywood. High School Musical will never be the same without the captain, Troy Bolton, would it?

Is Zac going to graduate or he’s coming back for another installment if it happens? Sorry to disappoint all you HSM fans out there! Zac Efron isn’t coming back!

But like Troy Bolton, Efron is ready to graduate. So don’t expect him in the upcoming “High School Musical 4.” “I think it’s important to grow up,” he [Zac Efron] said. “Everybody’s got to do it eventually, and now’s my time.”

I say never say never – of course, Efron has many other offers including his new deal to star alongside Johnny Depp in the fourth installment of another Disney blockbuster: Pirates of the Caribbean. Apparently, Zac is paid $12 million for his role (£6 million) in Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Efron also stars in the upcoming 17 Again alongside Friends star, Matthew Perry. This movie features Zac as a dissatisfied man who gets a chance to be a teen again. In the movie Efron plays the role of a 37-year old man.

I do agree with Zac, you need to grow and quit while you are on top of the world and diversify – that’s what makes a wonderful actor, you can’t just be doing teen stuff until it dries up. Smart thinking and we wish there are more Zac Efrons in La La Land!

We love you Zac, I don’t know about we but I do! Oops! I know a lot of you guys love Zac. Let us know what are your feelings? Do you think Zac is doing the right thing not coming back for more HSM?

The thing I like about High School musical, it’s sooo WHOLESOME, the cast is wholesome, the setting is wholesome – that’s so far from the real world. The real world sucks sometimes, doesn’t it? We have teen pregnancies, drugs, trashes in school hallways but East High is clean and wholesome. I love that. See I am a dreamer, I love the celebrity gossips, the chick flicks, blah, blah, blah.

This is just the kind of movie we nee. I am feeling a bit tired of the on-going election – What do they say? Dirty politics? With both parties tearing up each other. And to top it up, with the economy fallen off the wagon and the stock markets gone to the ditch. I need something wholesome, call it an escape but it’s definitely a good one.

So what’s going to happen to Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay – the mean girl (Ashley Tisdale), Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), Chad (Corbin Bleu)? Well, you would have to see the movie to find out, wouldn’t you?

I can tell you HSM 3, it’s going be another Disney blockbuster.   Perhaps there will still be more to HSM3, From East High they can move to Stanford for HSM 4, couldn’t they? College anyone? But the thing is Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are the must have if Disney is ever going to do another HSM. Is this really the final installment of the HSM franchise or there are more coming.. Never say never! For now, let’s enjoy the wholesomeness of the Wildcats and seriously, I don’t care if my friends say Zac you look gayish, I think you are so cute and wholesome!

What is with Zac Efron’s hair. I know, I know he’s going along with his role: Troy in High School Musical. Does he realize that he’s a whole lot cuter with his usual hairdo though? Vanessa Hudgens looks amazing as usual. I still prefer her with straight hair, Ashley Tisdale in her low-cut very elegant dress looks stunning. Ashley is my little girl’s favorite. She thinks Tisdale is sooo beautiful. Everyone else looks terrific!

So very cute looking and I bet all you HSM fans are just dying to watch the upcoming first ever big screen HSM sequel. You don’t have too long to wait anymore, HSM 3: Senior Year will be in theaters nationwide on October 24th, 2008.

The film is directed by Kenny Ortega and Disney is betting for it to be a blockbuster and I think they might just as well be right. As for the theme, you guessed it.. it builds upon the romance between Troy played by the teenager heartthrob, Zac Efron, 20 and Gabriella played by Vanessa Hudgens, 19 and their East High’s friends and they become High School seniors.

How sweet it is to be High School grads again? Doesn’t matter how old you are, I think this is a must see. It will be an entertaining musical with a bunch of good looking, adorable and talented young stars.

What is even sweeter is that the on-and-off-screen lovers Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are no longer hiding their relationship!

Vanessa: “I’m such a hopeless romantic,” she says. “You can feel the emotions Gabriella has for Troy. Zac and I have done three movies together now, and we can basically do anything in front of each other. We’re so comfortable, we’re not afraid to take chances.”

What does Zac have to say about his off-screen romance? “I’m glad Troy and Gabriella’s relationship comes across as real.”

Everyone’s back. All six stars of “High School Musical” will be onboard for the first big-screen adventure for the Disney Channel juggernaut. That means Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman will suit up for “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” slated for release on October 24,2008.

Filming will begin in the spring with the series’ director, Kenny Ortega, who told People magazine that he’s excited to be working one last time with the cast, who were all virtually unknown before the first “HSM” debuted on the Disney Channel in January 2006. The movie went on to be the highest-rated program in the channel’s history, and the soundtrack to its first sequel was the second-best-selling album of 2007.

“I am the luckiest guy in the world and I know it,” Ortega said. “This will be our last time together, and I love working with these kids so much. It’s going to be great.”

The third installment will find high school seniors Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) dealing with the prospect of being separated as they head to different colleges. And, as usual, they will join the rest of the Wildcat gang to stage an elaborate musical to deal with it.

Budding pop singer Tisdale, who will, of course, be back in the role of jealous diva Sharpay Evans, told People magazine she’s also psyched about one more go-round at East High.

“I’m excited,” she said. “But it’s going to be sad. It seems like it will be graduation, and I’ll be crying while we’re filming.”

As for the # 1 selling album of 2007.. who could have guessed?  Josh Groban‘s Noël has unexpectedly gone from being just another in a long list of forgettable Christmas-centric LPs to the best-selling album of 2007. With nearly 2.8 million copies sold — most coming within the last four weeks — Noël has usurped the “High School Musical 2” soundtrack (which has sold just over 2.7 million units) – MTV

“Disney finally decided that they don’t want her back,” an insider reveals to OK!. “They feel that as long as Zac Efron is in the movie, all will be fine. He’s the real star — the household name — and, most importantly, he comes without baggage.”

The source also reports that one of the Cheetah Girls — Adrienne Bailon, 23, or possibly 23-year-old Sabrina Bryan — will take Vanessa’s place. “The producers think that after Dancing With the Stars, Sabrina will be more famous than Vanessa.”

Could they give Vanessa a second chance please? What do you say?

Bleu, 18, tells People.com, “I’ve never been to a High School Musical premiere ever. I couldn’t go to the DVD premiere. I was on tour for the (High School Musical 2) Disneyland premiere. I couldn’t go to London for the international premiere. I’m cursed.” But Bleu’s luck could be about to change after agreeing to appear in High School Musical 3.
Corbin adds, “Truthfully, as long as it’s a good script and as long as everybody is being paid fairly, I would be more than happy to go and have one last hurrah.”

I say it’s a good curse when you are this successful! Corbin, keep up the good work. Isn’t he a cutie?

For the third act, the film is headed to the big screen and big dollars.

New mega star Zac his co-star girlfriend Vanessa have allegedly been offered $1 million by Disney to sign up to the film adaptation, but are still in talks with movie producers. A source tells PageSix, Disney are “only offering them $1 million each. Zac and Vanessa aren’t going to do it.”

Disney was unprepared for the worldwide success of the first, Emmy-winning movie that was made for just $US4.2 million as one of the 10 original movies to air in 2006 on its Disney Channel cable network, High School Musical.

The musical, described as a modern day Grease, was watched by more than 200 million viewers in 100 countries and its soundtrack became the best-selling album of 2006 as Disney scrambled to build a merchandising program.

But this time every division at Disney is geared up for High School Musical 2 ahead of its TV debut on Friday, with expectations running high for the movie and its franchise.

Are you a HSM fan?

Current news ratings show kids and teens of all ages were tuned in to Friday’s premiere, earning “HSM 2” the record for the most-watched telecast of all time for kids in the 6-11 age group, and the 9-14 demographic.

High School Musical 2 has also became basic cable’s highest-rated movie ever, bumping TNT’s 2001 Western “Crossfire” from the record book.

Efron, the teen heartthrob, 19, has been spotted wearing a silver ring on his left hand and was recently quoted saying, “Exchanging rings is far easier than getting tattoos.”

While Efron is happy to talk about his on-screen chemistry with Hudgens and describes her as a “very sexy woman,” he refuses to divulge any more details of their one-year relationship.

Efron says, “I’m not even going to say who it’s from. This is just a ring from a friend that I got. ‘Commitment’ is way too weird a word for me right now. I’m wearing it for a friend. It is a female friend, but I can’t say who, because then it would be chat-room pandemonium and teenage magazine-hysteria.”

Hmmm… is it from Vanessa Hudgens? I would guess “yes” & it’s really cute! Efron is right, he’s only 19, that’s way too young to be committed!

On top of that, he’s allegedly dating his Hairspray co-star Nikki Blonsky!

In his interview with Rolling Stone, Efron reveals some of his feelings for Hudgens saying, “The weird thing that no one expected about Vanessa is that underneath such a sweet girl … is a very sexy woman.” He blushes, though, when pressed for more details about their relationship, and demures when asked about a silver band he wears.
