High School Musical 3 scored the biggest opening ever for a musical. Sky’s the limit, as the Disney musical rocked and rolled its way to a number 1 finish at the box office this weekend; beating a strong Saw V and a weak Pride and Glory — along the way.

Disney’s television transplant earned $42 million, according to Sunday’s estimates, giving it the best premiere ever for a movie musical — by a mile. The previous champ in this category, Mamma Mia!, banked $27.8 mil on its first weekend a few months ago, and last year’s Hairspray opened with $27.5 mil.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year had its Los Angeles premiere yesterday with all its beautiful, young, up beat cast. Sheesh after writing so much about Madonna, this is definitely refreshing. Hey don’t get me wrong. It’s not Madonna per se but divorces.. hmm. That’s bad news. So it’s Friday look at these guys – they are amazing.

Everyone’s back. All six stars of “High School Musical” will be onboard for the first big-screen adventure for the Disney Channel juggernaut. That means Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman will suit up for “High School Musical 3: Senior Year,” slated for release on October 24,2008.
