Well, they deserve it. New parents are notoriously short on sleep, and if Beyonce and Jay-Z’s devotion to their destiny’s child, Blue Ivy Carter, are any indication, we’re guessing they’re staying up at night with their daughter themselves…

But Sunday night…the night of the Grammys…was a night the couple decided to take a break from parenting duties and go on a romantic pre-Valentine’s Day date together.

They left one-month-old Blue Ivy at home and made a coo-some two-some at their favorite pizzeria, Lucali, in the Carroll Gardens area of Brooklyn.

That meant that Jay-Z, who was up for an award with Kanye West for Best Rap Performance for “Otis” from their album, “Watch the Throne,” was an absent from the Grammy Awards.

Big deal. Bonding with wifey is more important. This guy knows which side his bread is buttered on.

Incidentally, co-awardee, Kanye West was absent, too. Wonder who he’d gone on a pre-Valentine’s Day date with.

Apparently Beyonce and Jay-Z needed to take immediate steps to ensure their baby’s name wasn’t used as a brand name for any line of baby-related products, including carriages, diaper bags and baby cosmetics, after a fashion designer, Joseph Mbeh, submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” just four days after the child was born…

Not to mention that Blue Ivy strain of marijuana, which was named in honor of the yet-to-be-seen star child.

The A-list power couple have already filed their application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office after it turned down Mbeh‘s earlier application, and a second claim by another applicant who attempted to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” for a line of fragrances just last month.

Wise of Beyonce and Jay-Z. It’s a good thing they acted quickly (although not quick enough) to exercise their legal right to trademark their baby’s name. Who’d want their child to grow up  with a moniker found on nearly every product, from heavy-duty poop diapers to weed sprouts?

Jay-Z and Beyonce‘s star child, whom no one has laid eyes on except her parents, close family member, nannies, bodyguards, and select friends like Kelly, is fast becoming the mystery of the quarter…when are we going to finally see this wonder baby who’s had the maternity ward of a top New York hospital closed off for her, had a Billboard Top 100 song dedicated to her, classic lullabies created for her, and even a strain of marijuana named after her?

Her proud father even cleaned up his act and swore to curse anyone who’d use the “B” word in front of him.

A representative for Beyonce and Jay-Z denied reports that Oprah Winfrey was among the people in the list being considered as godparents to baby Blue Ivy, and as the news broke out, Oprah didn’t even know it was going down. The new dad has announced he’s cleaning up his act…and his language…now that he has baby girl Blue Ivy Carter in his life.

Isn’t this going to be a rather hard rule for Jay-Z to follow? Because we believe there isn’t a single rapper in Hollywood who doesn’t use the “b” word…even dating back to the early ’80s when the art form became part of the mainstream music industry. So if Jay-Z‘s never going to use the “b” word again, we suppose there are other worthier expletives to choose from, eh?

And so the man once known as Shawn Corey Carter wrote a poem in honor of his baby daughter vowing to drop the “b” word from all of his future lyrics forever…

“Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the word b—h/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it.”

It looks like Jay-Z is taking parenting seriously, so woe to anyone who calls Blue a “b*tch”… or tries to date her before she’s 30.

Reserving the whole neonatal ward, and indeed, the whole floor of the hospital for the birth of baby Blue Ivy cost Beyonce and Jay-Z a reported $1.3 million, though the hospital was quick to deny that they gave any special treatment to the Grammy award winning singer and her hip-hop mogul of a husband. But pictures do speak a thousand words, don’t they? So here’s a few more thousand of them…

“The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true,”

the hospital said in a statement they recently issued.

“The family is housed in an executive suite at the hospital and is being billed the standard rate for those accommodations.”

But what about allegations the couple’s stringent security detail gave other hospital patients and their visitors,  not to mention the medical staff, a hard time?

“The family does have its own security detail on site. However, the hospital has been and continues to be in control of managing all security at the facility,”

the Lennox Hill administration continued in it’s statement.

A statement belied by reports of an irate Manhattan contractor, Neil Coulon, among many other mistreated parents, who complained that Beyonce‘s security team refused him entry not only once, but three times, when he tried to visit his wife who had given birth to premature twin girls.

“Once they checked in there was high security everywhere,”

his wife, Rozz Nash-Coulon, revealed to The Associated Press.

“It looked like the president was on our floor. The hospital’s security cameras were taped over. Internal windows from the hallways into the ward were blacked out.”

Other patients complained that they were hampered by the star’s burly security guards. Others said they were denied access or forced to wait to go to their rooms. Cellphones were detained at the floor to the maternity ward, and one of the doctors alleged he was unable to contact his patients via mobile because of this.

And that just goes to show how special Blue Ivy Carter is…barely a week old, yet recipient of the kind of treatment reserved for royalty. Who wouldn’t want to give birth in these kind of surroundings?
