During her recent appearance at “The Graham Norton Show,” Kate shared some surprisingly funny details about the scary, life-threatening experience she recently had while vacationing on Necker Island. The curvy blonde actress, who was one of the people at the Branson estate when the fire occurred, shared:

“It was genuinely very scary, it really was. I mean, we did wake up at 4:30 in the morning to hear the sounds of some of Richard‘s nephews voices yelling that there was a fire. And I jumped up and ran immediately towards the fire, because clearly I thought I could put it out.”

When she realized that she couldn’t, Kate went to her kids. She recalled:

“My children were standing at their bedroom door, and I said, ‘It’s a fire, it’s fine. Go back inside just for two minutes and just close the door.’”

Kate then admitted:

“Then I’m thinking, ‘Now what do I do?’ Ran into the bedroom, and put on a bra.”

Weird, right? We can’t think of any logical reason for Kate to think of brassieres while she and her family are in danger! The “Contagion” actress explained, however, that it was one of those people-do-crazy-things” moments. She said:

“In disastrous moments like that, you do the strangest things. So I started to put on a bra, and then thought that’s gonna take me too long, off came the bra, on with the T-shirt, grabbed the bag, grabbed the children and picked up granny.”

Phew. It’s a good thing Kate decided to forgo the bra.

Who is this guy?

Star news earlier reported that Kate‘s been seeing British tycoon, Richard Branson’s nephew. The same Virgin Records CEO Branson whose eight-bedroom Caribbean retreat house where Kate and her family were vacationing in August was destroyed by a fire in which Kate played the hero by carrying Branson’s aged mother away before the fire gutted the building…

Kate met Branson’s nephew, the curiously named Ned Rocknroll (he’d legally changed his name from a perfectly normal Ned Abel Smith a few years back),  during that fire. Perhaps the scary and stressful accident brought them closer together, and so voila! They’re dating.

Rocknroll (we can’t help but giggle when we say his name), 33, sort of manages his tycoon uncle’s “spaceport” in Las Cruces, New Mexico where a new runway was launched just last week. He’d just been freshly separated from his heiress wife, Eliza Pearson, who’s descended from British royalty, when he met Kate at Branson’s exclusive vacation isle two months ago.

Is Rocknroll on the rebound? We sincerely hope not. And we also hope he’ll still be with Kate when his divorce from Eliza Pearson (whom he married in a pagan ceremony officiated by a druid) comes through.

So, um…Kate Winslet-Rocknroll?

Huh. So if they end up married, Kate’s children are going to have the last name “Rocknroll”? Not bad.

Kate, who separated from director Sam Mendes last year, made an appearance with her new man at the memorial service for Ted Branson, Richard Branson’s father, at London’s Royal Geographical Society.

A few days after the service, the new couple reportedly spent a romantic weekend together in the English countryside.

A source tells Us Weekly:

“Ned is really happy with Kate… [She is] mature and has it all together. [Ned] feels he can learn so much from her. It’s sexy — a boy toy situation!”

Kate is a longtime friend of the Bransons and was a guest at Richard’s private island when the lavish property was famously consumed by a large fire last month.

Oscar winner to Oscar winner, Kate‘s tribute in V Magazine makes her look virtually like Liz‘s doppelganger, except for the violet eyes, of course.

“There was a real fearlessness in her,”

Kate told the magazine.

“Which in old Hollywood perhaps didn’t feel quite as prevalent. Now, actors and actresses can bend the rules a lot. Back then, there did seem to be a rule book, and there was some expectation in terms of how glamorous women should look. There’s a sort of coolness and aloofness to the way [Taylor] would look in posed photographs.”

Which makes us wonder if there’s any star in Hollywood right now who’ll be able to look as regal as Elizabeth Taylor always came across, even in her last few days.

“In candid snapshots she was really quite soft, and she would really screw up her face. I do that as well.”

Kate revealed, hoping perhaps she could live up to this bigger-than-life legend. Unlike Kate however, we don’t think Elizabeth would so readily shed her clothes on camera.

“She was very strong in her head and in her heart, not just in the exterior, and I suppose I am,”

Winslet continued.

“To me, she hid vulnerability fairly successfully, and I do that too. We all have vulnerable sides.

Kate may be piling it on a bit too thick with the parallels here, but no matter. She’s still one of our favorite in-the-buff Academy Award winner, whether she looks like the real Liz, or not.

Kate and her children, Mia and Joe were on holiday at the retreat with about 20 of Branson’s other guests when tropical storm Irene battered the Virgin Islands, turning into a hurricane that blew 80mph winds that encouraged the fire, purportedly caused by lightning, to spread.

Fortunately, Kate and her kids were able to escape the blaze. Unfortunately, Branson’s home was completely destroyed, with the fire still not entirely out as of press time.

“We’ll all stay here for the time being,”

business magnate Richard Branson said of another guest house on his property.

“There’s a lot of damage and we won’t be able to stick it back together again right away.”

The three women say they will never succumb to the pressure, and they will never give up the fight…

Kate Winslet, 35, who won an Academy Award for “The Reader” said:

“I will never give in. It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty.”

Rachel Weisz, 41, the new Mrs. Daniel Craig, who herself nabbed an Oscar for “The Constant Gardener” feel women who have had plastic surgery and…

“who look too perfect don’t look sexy or particularly beautiful.”

For her part, practically an old girl herself but still stunning at 52, Emma Thomson has an Academy Award Best Actress winner for her role in “Howard’s End”, and another Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Sense and Sensibility” in her trophy cabinet. The veteran film and stage thespian has declared:

“I’m not fiddling about with myself. We’re in this awful youth-driven thing now where everybody needs to look 30 at 60.”

Who could be better spokespersons for the Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League than three outspoken Oscar winners who’ve never had a thing done and remain ethereal in all their natural beauty?

As all of Hollywood celebrity news knows, Kate is no stranger to baring all for the camera. From “Titanic” to “Jude” to “Quills” to “The Reader” to “Revolutionary Road”….hell, practically every movie of note she has out, she’s gone from topless to full monty…

And while she’s won an Oscar and a Golden Globes for two of those butt naked films, she’s pushing down the road towards 40, and you can’t have all that taut flesh forever, you know.

Still, Mario Testino has vowed to make it all look….different:

“You know that his biggest strength without fail is making women look beautiful. When Mario turns to you and says, ‘It’s beautiful, but I think it would work better naked, no?’ How can one refuse?”

Kate has been quoted as saying.

Or perhaps this drive to be constantly naked stems back to Kate‘s chubby childhood when she used to be nicknamed “Blubber.”

“…people would say, ‘Ah, it’s such a shame, because you’ve got such a pretty face.’”

We understand, Kate, we understand. Having a difficult life as a kid can lead women to take off their clothes in adulthood.

Watch out for that Mario-Testino-does-Kate-Winslet photoshoot. It should be out sooner than later if Kate has her way.

“Kate Winslet is trying her best to keep her steamy new hookup under wraps. But the newly single Oscar winner, 35, has been secretly spending time with notorious ladies’ man John Mayer, 33, Star has learned!

“A few weeks ago, John was at a party in Manhattan when he ran into Kate. He really put the moves on her, and Kate eventually responded,” says an insider. “She’s just having fun – and she’s begging him not to blab.”

Doesn’t Kate seem a little too good for John Mayer? But then again, she did date that male model, so maybe she just wants to have fun these days. Who knows.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. Kate‘s friends are telling the press that the actress needed some alone time to get over her marriage and sort things out emotionally.

“Louis was just what Kate needed after her split from Sam and they had a wonderful time which helped her move on,” a source told the British paper. “However, they have realized their relationship isn’t working and Kate needs space to be on her own…She feels she has rushed into things and wants to be alone to find out what it is that she wants.”

Although Kate has been pictured with her new beau before but this is her first official event with her hot new man, Dowler.

It seems like yesterday when Kate and director Sam Mendes split up.. indeed, it was just this March. Rumor has it that the British director had cheated on Winslet with Rebecca Hall but his camp denied such allegations. Regardless, there’s no reason to sit around and mourn, Kate looks happy and we’re happy for her as well.

While the source (The News of the World) is anything but reliable, there may be at least a kernel of truth tucked in here somewhere.

“Louis has been spending a lot of time with Kate recently and they were in New York together while he was shooting an advert. They’ve been on lots of dates and get on really well. It’s early days for them but they enjoy each other’s company. They have been desperate to keep the relationship under wraps so they’ve been a bit low-key so far. Louis has a good sense of humour and really is a lovely guy. He loves to surf and he’s really quite engaging and very down-to-earth. He’s a good looking guy and gets lots of attention when he’s out and about – but he’s not your typical model. Not at all big-headed.”

Why does it sound like Louis’s PR manager wrote this? Eh, good for Kate if this is true – but it seems a bit far-fetched.

Those “close” to the pair told OK!:

“Leo was there for Kate when her marriage started to go south two years ago, around the time they reunited on-screen in Revolutionary Road.

The film was directed by Sam, who, an insider says, became uncomfortable with how cozy the co-stars were on set.

“Kate became closer to Leo than ever,” explains a friend. “And that became a problem: The more she drifted from Sam, the closer she got to Leo.”

Hm. We’re not so sure. While it would be great victory for normal-looking girls everywhere if Kate snagged Leo away from Bar, it just seems like one of those pipe dreams that never reaches fruition.

According to The Daily Mail, Mendes was bored in the marriage and acquired a case of roaming eyes:

“Kate Winslet had grown increasingly frustrated with her husband Sam Mendes’s friendship with the young actress Rebecca Hall, friends claimed last night. Miss Hall, 27, daughter of theatre director Sir Peter Hall and opera singer Maria Ewing, provided Mendes with a ’shoulder to cry on’ as his six-year marriage was on the verge of collapse…a source close to Miss Winslet said: ‘When Kate found out that Sam had grown close to Rebecca she was upset. Rebecca is totally Sam’s type – a thespian mix of brains and beauty.”

The funniest part about this: Sam‘s type, a “mix of brains and beauty.” Yeah, in contrast to all the men out there who love unattractive, braindead women.

The pair’s lawyer released this statement:

“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.”

This will be the second divorce for Kate Winslet. She was previously married to Jim Threapleton. She has two children, a son from Mendes and a daughter from Threapleton.

Does Kate even realize she fell right in to their hands? They said she is acting like a diva, so what does she do when they say one not even bad thing about her? She acts like a diva and sues.  Via OK! Magazine:

The Oscar winner is suing the Daily Mail, a UK tabloid, saying they libeled her in an article called, “Should Kate Winslet Win an Oscar for the World’s Most Irritating Actress?” She’s seeking around $225,000 in damages.

“[Winslet] was particularly upset by what she regarded as the very unpleasant and nasty way in which the article was written,” according to her April legal filing.

The Daily Mail writer, Liz Jones, claims she had succumbed to Hollywood pressure and slimmed down, saying she “has become, in my opinion, as drippy and as impossibly vain as the rest of them.”

“She caught a nasty dose of Hollywooditis. It happens to the best of them, of course it does,” wrote Jones. “It is the duplicitousness that enrages me and most other women I have spoken to.”

Well, after reading it I don’t see where the nastiness comes in. Nasty would be saying that Kate is two faced – as she posed on a fur throw on the cover of Vogue when she is a peta supporter. Nasty would be saying she is an over-rated actress who gets awards because she has a British accent! Kate needs to lighten up a bit!

Kate is a true beauty, who stays away from the limelight and tries to have a private life too.  She keeps her children out of the camera’s way, and I like that too.  But other people realized her outer beauty as well.  From The Sun:

BRIT Oscar winner KATE WINSLET has beaten movie legend AUDREY HEPBURN to the title of Ultimate Natural Beauty.

The Reader actress was hailed for having “a classic English rose complexion without needing lots of make-up to look stunning”, in a survey of 3,000 men and women.

Kate, 33, pipped Breakfast At Tiffany’s star Hepburn. KELLY BROOK was third, followed by CHERYL COLE, ANGELINA JOLIE and SCARLETT JOHANSSON.

She beat out some stiff competition!  I’m surprised Cheryl Cole didn’t win with this group.  She has stunning beauty as well.  The male voters must have been Titanic fans and not Girls Aloud fans!

Do you think Kate will pose in the buff?  She kind of already did for Vanity Fair and got caught up in a fur and then a photo shopping scandal, not of her making.  From The Sun:

IF an Oscar, two Golden Globes and a Bafta aren’t enough for Kate Winslet – she’s now been bestowed with another honour.

Hugh Hefner has offered the British actress a spot on the cover of Playboy with a nude spread inside.

If Kate takes Hugh up on his offer she would follow in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Stone, Pamela Anderson and fellow Oscar winner Charlize Theron.

The 82-year-old Playboy boss told a newspaper: “There’s no question we would be interested in Kate.

“It’s a competitive market, more than it used to be, so she would be a most welcome addition in our pages.”

Wow.  If I were Kate, I’d jump right on that bandwagon.  Look how well Sharon, Pam and Marilyn are doing right now?  One is dead, one looks like a junkie and the other is a cougar.

Poor Hef. It’s finally a competitive market for the mogul who’s had to cut back on the parties this year.  No Holly & Kendra to bring in the money for him.  Do you think Kate will pose for him?

Sean Penn surprisingly beat Mickey Rourke and took home the Lead Actor Award for his portrayal of Harvey Milk in Milk. Although Rourke didn’t end up getting his all-time get laid pass winning, we have to say that Rourke has made a dramatic almost miraculous comeback.

This wasn’t Sean Penn’s first Oscar win, in fact this is the 48-year old’s second Oscar. It was certainly good to see Sean and his wife Robin Wright looking like a happily married couple again.

The late Heath Ledger posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor Award for his spectacular role as the Joker in the Dark Knight. It was an emotional moment when his mother, father and sister accepted the Award on stage.

Penelope Cruz took home the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Another year another Oscar. Congratulations to all the Oscar winners.
