Katherine looked smoldering on the red carpet of the 2012 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City earlier this week.

Dressed in a fully embroidered coral sleeveless gown by Ellie Saab with a deep square neckline, train and a thin belt of the same color around her waist, the “Smash” star and “American Idol” winner was refreshing to see amid a few other stars in dark hues. Katherine paired her dress with bronze Christian Louboutins and accessorized with gold jewels and clutch.

Completing her statuesque red carpet look was her wavy updo, brown shadows and nude lips.

“Smash,” a prime-time NBC soap, stars Debra Messing as a lyricist for a new Marilyn Monroe musical, veteran actress, Anjelica Huston, as a hard-driving Broadway producer, and McPhee as the sexy up-and-coming starlet who threatens to take over the show.

Oh, how we’d love to see that. Even her GQ spread looks like it’s all poised on the brink of a takeover with her silky red and black lingerie.  She also turns on the heat in a flimsy, falling-down white top inside an old-fashioned clawfoot tub.

Kind of blows all your past impressions of Katherine McPhee doesn’t it?
