Novel, broadway and film fans alike no longer have to be miserable as the first sneak peek for “Les Miserables,” the upcoming screen adaptation of the iconic stage production of the same name, has finally been released.

The favorite book-turned-musical-turned-future big screen hit—set in 19th century France—stars Anne Hathaway as Fantine (who actually had to lose weight and cut her hair real short for the part), her daughter in the film, Amanda Seyfried, prisoner Hugh Jackman and French policeman Russell Crow.

Not only would Hathaway look like a pretty boy, fans of the stage musical would remember that she turns into a prostitute as the story progresses. But we do need to “dream a dream” until December 14 until we can finally see that…

Oh, did we mention that it’s actually Hathaway belting out the famous song in the trailer? How about that?

This latest Superman reboot is rumored to be one big budget mother, but by the looks of Jor-el’s dress, Hollywood celebrity websites are thinking producers have made some budget cuts along the way. Still, Russell Crowe‘s got some pretty big acting chops himself, and while he doesn’t exactly have Marlon Brando‘s classically succulent profile, he’s got an Oscar nomination under his belt to carry the part.

Just please, Russell Crowe, don’t give us any of your “Robin Hood” stuff. We’ll be happier if you give us a tamer version of “Gladiator”, and let Henry Cavill‘s Superman do all the heavy lifting…

Russell shared his thoughts on Twitter last Thursday:

“Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that God requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”

He added:

“I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats, but stop cutting your babies.”

Russel, who seems to feel particularly passionate about the topic, went on to say:

“I will always stand for the perfection of babies. I will always believe in God, not man’s interpretation of what God requires… Last of it, if you feel it is your right to cut things off your babies please unfollow and f**k off; I’ll take attentive parenting over barbarism.”

Of course such a pronouncement was bound to ruffle some feathers, especially since his little Twitter rant became a sudden hot topic on the latest Hollywood news and gossip, hence reaching more ears (or eyes) in addition to those of his followers. Since there are numerous people all over the world who follow the age-old tradition of circumcision, Russell then realized that he may have offended other people, so early Friday morning he wrote:

“I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities. I’m very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress. My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry.”

Celebrities rant about all kinds of things everyday on their Twitter pages, allowing us mere mortals to get to know them a little better. And, although we applaud them for expressing their beliefs, do you think they should be a little more reserved when it comes to topics like these?

Russell had his agent call her up and give her the chance to see for herself how in shape he was. According to the Huffington Post:

In a story published Friday, the paper said Crowe’s spokesman called up gossip columnist Annette Sharp the next day and said, “Get on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him. Are you ready to die?”

Sharp accepted the challenge and the pair met a dawn for a 12-mile (20-kilometer) ride through the city. Video of the race shows Sharp struggling to keep up while Crowe zooms along unfazed. At one point, Sharp fell off her bike.

I guess Russell did prove his point. And it was good sport of Sharp to accept his challenge instead of just hide away behind a keyboard.

The Telegraph has a picture from the movie and I must say, Russell is back to his former self, smoking hot.  He isn’t wearing the tights of Robinhood, but who cares!

The Hollywood rumour-mill had it that Crowe was too fat to play the English folk hero in Ridley Scott’s $130 million epic after piling on 63lbs for his last two films, Body of Lies and State of Play.

However, the first images from the set show that Crowe’s Robin bears more than a passing resemblance to his character in Gladiator, with the same buffed physique and close-cropped haircut. He also appears to be wearing jeans in place of the rather less macho Lincoln green tights worn by Errol Flynn.

Now I can’t wait for this movie to come out!  Don’t you agree that Russell is looking as good as ever?  Thanks to The Telegraph for the Nottingham picture.

“They are both highly accomplished dramatic actors who are taken seriously playing rich characters in period pieces, but each has the ability to show you fun,” Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer said.

We’re fine with this. Cate Blanchett will likely bring a maturity to the role Sienna Miller hasn’t yet mastered.

It is a mess. Russell never lost the weight he put on for ‘Body of Evidence’ – and so the love scenes between him and Sienna would have been laughable. He’s so old and fat and she’s so young and gorgeous. It’s just . . . gross.”

Methinks this “source” is Sienna. Because then the “insider” goes on to say they are looking to cast an an “older, plumper actress to play the role so [Crowe] doesn’t look like a paunchy grandpa. Someone in her late 30s or early 40s.”

Ooookay. Since when does Hollywood cast old, plump women for starring roles in big blockbusters—unless they’re cast as a portly mom or something.
