The 35-year-old Grammy award winner was taking pictures of sea lions along with other tourists while on vacation in Cape Town over the weekend. And it looked like she irked one of the creatures who took great exception to her Blackberry’s up close and personal invasion of its space…

As Shakira tells it:

“This afternoon I happened to see some sea lions and seals. I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them doing a baby talk while taking pictures…”

She writes on her Facebook account.

“Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother “Super Tony” jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast. We both got our hands and legs scratched by the rocks while trying to protect ourselves. I believe what happened is that it confused the shiny reflection of the blackberry I was taking these pics with, with some sort of fish. It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it.”

That just goes to show that you never fool around with the wildlife, or they may just decide you look good enough to be an early dinner.

“Wow! It’s funny that only half an hour before I was complaining to my guide Andrew that I never get to see wild animals up close on adventurous trips. Oh well, I can’t say that anymore!! Now I’m off to see some penguins! I hope they are a bit more friendly!”

Guess Shakira got more than she bargained for. At least the penguins were indeed friendlier…

Looks like knighting women these days (long overdue, too) has become all the rage. But to top Shakira‘s honor of being made a Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters for her contributions to music, she received the Award of Honor from the NRJ Music Awards, as well.

These awards were created by the radio station NRJ and the television network TF1 way back in 2000, and Shakira shared the top spot with Adele, Rihanna and Justin Bieber this year.

So congrats, Shakira! You’re prime testament to the fact that hips really don’t lie…

Shakira showed her many talents in school as a live performer, displaying her vocal ability in rock and roll, with Latin and Middle Eastern influences. She incorporated her personal touch with belly dancing. Shakira is a native Spanish speaker, but speaks fluent English and Portuguese as well as some Italian, French and Arabic.

After commercial flops with local producers on her first two albums in Colombia, Shakira was fed up. She began to produce her own style of music. In 1995 she released Pies Descalzos. This song brought her great fame in Latin America and Spain. Her 1998 album ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? (Where Are the Thieves?) was a critical success selling over 7 million copies worldwide.

In 2001, boosted by the success all over the world of her first English single, “Whenever, Wherever”( it became the best selling single of 2002), she became an instant success in the English-speaking world with the release of Laundry Service, which sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Making even more entertainment news, in 2005, Shakira released two albums: Fijación Oral Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation Vol. 2. Both solidified her fame worldwide. In this album was the best selling song of the 2000s, “Hips Don’t Lie”.

Shakira is taping the Freixenet  Christmas ad in exchange for a donation of $500,000 euro ($670,000) paid by the Spanish sparkling wine company. The money will be used to build two schools, one in Haiti and the other in Colombia.

Shakira said,”Education is a birthright and a quality education is the only tool that a child has to turns dreams into reality,” “Since I was a girl I have been been aware of the tough reality faced by many children.”

Under the deal Freixenet will also produce a videoclip for Shakira’s new song “Sale el sol” as well as as a documentary about the singer’s philanthropic work. Shakira’s Pies Descalzos foundation already manages six schools in Colombia.

The Bambi Award is Germany’s most important media prize award equivalent to our Oscar so lots of A-listers were in attendance namely Jessica Sarah Parker, Orlando Bloom and Beth Ditto.

The gorgeous Latina has been nominated for the Best Latin Music Artist award at this year’s American Music Awards. The awards will be televised on ABC on November 21. Surely she will win something!

The album is scheduled to be released in November.  You can catch Shakira way before that, the gorgeous Columbian artist is set to kick off her world tour in mid September in Montreal, Canada on September 15th. Shakira will perform a total of 21 shows before heading off to Latin America, Europe and Asia.

The 33-year old Latina will be doing a world tour this year, the tour will kick off in North America this September. Shakira’s new album “Sale El Sol” will also be released in September as well.

Shakira told Billboard magazine during a recent interview,

“I see it [the new album] as having two currents,” she says. “One is a lot about love and love experiences and emotions. And the other side of it is very joyful, and upbeat.” Shakira also revealed that the music on her upcoming set would reflect influences from both the Dominican Republic and Colombia. “It’s a little more Latin on one side and a little more rock ‘n roll on the other side,” she says. It will pretty much be a similar reflection to Oral Fixation era.

The 32 year-old just released her new album “She Wolf” last month. What does the sexy singer want to accomplish with her new album?

Shakira hopes “She Wolf” will be useful. “I wanted to make an album that was dancey and uplifting, that people could have fun and forget about their troubles with,” Shakira says. “In the middle of this economic crisis people need to find a space of distractions and fun as well. . . if people can forget about their troubles on the dance floor for eight minutes then I will feel like it’s mission accomplished.”

Good mission, that’s what entertainers hope to do, to get people to forget about their problems just like us bloggers writing the gossip columns, right?

It must have been the night for the one named acts to wear strapless! From the LA Times:

 Pink and Shakira’s dress hit the red carpet twice at tonight’s show, once with major legging for Shakira and another time with a stunning bracelet for Pink.

Shakira wore the hair down, Pink tossed it up in spikes.

When it came to the pose, Shakira smiled it up with a simple cocktail purse in hand while Pink went hands free. Two beautiful women, one rather spectacular dress.

Which star rocked it out better? Pink has a unique look with the hair and attitude, while Shakira is just gorgeous no matter what. Who gets your vote?

Shakira has written and recorded the first single off the new album called “She Wolf.” “And then the president of her label said, ‘Have you checked out “Twilight“? It’s about wolves and vampires and things’. Shakira watched it and loved it and Shakira won’t mind doing a little musical collaboration with Pattinson. Shakira said she heard Robert’s a good singer and a great musician.

For years Shakira, the 30-year-old Latin pop star has studied on her own, also taking tutorials on the history and languages of the countries she visits, Shakira’s manager, Kurzman said.

The class began Aug. 6 and ended Thursday, though Shakira didn’t attended the last few classes, according to course lecturer Robert Cleve. Cleve said he hadn’t known she was a celebrity during the course and was astonished to learn she was a pop star.

“She told me she was visiting from Colombia and that she was just doing this for her own enlightenment and enjoyment,” Cleve said. “She looked like just an ordinary student. She wasn’t flamboyant … she didn’t act like a big celebrity or anything.”

Shakira, who sat near the front in the third row of the lecture hall, would often discuss the course material with him after class.

“I was really impressed with how intelligent she was,” said Cleve.

Did you know the gorgeous Latina does a lot of charitable work? She has formed a charitable foundation which has been building schools for poor children in her hometown back in Columbia.

Shakira’s first European gig is in Hamburg, Germany on Thursday. I love Hamburg, is my favorite place in Germany. I remember the first time there, I saw so many Hamburger joints and I was asking my other half who is a Swede and very acquainted with the German culture and all that jazz. I said to him Wow, the Germans must love hamburgers and he couldn’t stop laughing. Hamburger means people from Hamburg.. lol. Oh dear! Ok, that’s my side joke of the day for you.
